Better waste services

Illegal dumping is an ongoing issue. I will pursue the relevant information to be presented to the community so we can gauge sentiment around kerbside hard waste collection and tip vouchers. Making it easier and cheaper for residents to do the right thing with hard to remove items.

The council have upgraded key infrastructure and I will continue to pursue better facilities and operations for ratepayers at our waste sites.

The community have long called for kerbside collection of hard waste.  The cost to do so is in the millions and increasing goods that go to landfill is not a strategy that I endorse.

However, an independent report to get true information regarding how big the illegal dumping problem is, how much it costs ratepayers to investigate and clean up, how much kerbside waste is recycled by the community, how much then remains to be collected, and what is the best process of collection to reduce the amount that goes to landfill and increase material recycling within our facilities is required.

Consultation with the community will provide a better understanding of the communities thoughts on possible process, the costs, the benefits and the issues.
